Level 2 Leaders through Football – George Salter Academy
During a 7 month period 10 leaders at George Salter Academy have become some of the first in the area to complete and gain the 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Leadership through Football (QCF).
This award has seen them undertake 10 units of work with them gaining hands on experience of:
- running a football team
- analysis of matches
and ending in them running the George Salter World Cup for 8 primary schools.
The leaders delivered, organised and coached teams with the eventual winners being Lyng Primary School. The successful coach for Lyng was Juber Ahmed who has been working in Charter Standard Club Read West Brom FC as well as doing the course.
All leaders will continue to help in coaching and become the football workforce of tomorrow.
Extended Schools Manager and Course Tutor Rus Smith added:
“The leaders have been a credit to this new course over the past 7 months. All gained a bigger insight into working within football. They have had different experiences with Sporting Club Albion’s Disability teams, Primary school football teams and at grassroots community clubs. These experiences will hopefully help them to fulfil their potential to continue in football into their adult lives.”
The Academy’s second course starts in January 2012.
