Working in partnership with Kingston Maurward College
Kingston Maurward College partners up with 1st4sport to equip learners with knowledge and understanding of multi-skills development as well as skills they can apply to their sport-specific coaching.
Kingston Maurward College in Dorchester is a higher and further education college. It operates across seven curriculum areas and offers courses at all levels, from Skills for Life through to degree.
The College already includes many qualifications from 1st4sport Qualifications in its programme of provision and recognised that ‘multi-skills’ coaching is increasingly in demand. Gary Batchelor, Quality Assurance Coordinator and Tutor at Kingston Maurward College, wanted his learners to be well placed to take up the many employment opportunities in this important area of coaching.
Why 1st4sport Qualifications works for Kingston Maurward College
Gary chose to deliver the 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Multi-Skills Development in Sport (QCF) qualification (unique to 1st4sport Qualifications) as he felt it would equip his learners with vital knowledge and understanding in this important area for potential employers. He also felt it would broaden students’ professional development and equip them with skills they could use in their sport-specific coaching. Gary found the process to become approved to deliver the Multi-Skills Development Award very straightforward.
He has been very happy with the level of support he has received: ‘The customer service from 1st4sport Qualifications is excellent. You have a named contact, and they are always on the case when you need them.’
The first cohort of students finished their course, and the results are very positive. Two learners gained multi-skills coaching work immediately after completion.
The learners have been really positive about the qualification, largely because it challenges them to look at their coaching methods and focuses on their observation and intervention techniques. They are better equipped to analyse movement, balance and coordination skills, which are fundamental to all sports.
‘It was a fantastic experience, as it made me think my coaching through in a completely different way, and has boosted my confidence in my football coaching, as well as in the area of multi-skills.’
Multi-skills learner, Kingston Maurward College
‘I would have no hesitation in recommending the 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Multi-Skills Development in Sport (QCF) to other providers. This qualification has filled a gap in the market for coaches and will enhance both their multi-skills and sport-specific coaching. As a bonus, 1st4sport Qualifications really understands partnership working and more than fulfils its side of the bargain.’
