The SVQ in Leisure Management at SCQF Level 7 is designed to provide learners aged 16 and over with the knowledge, skills and competences required to work as a duty or line manager within the leisure industry. The level of knowledge recognised in this qualification will enable them to operate in the leisure industry in roles such as duty manager or supervisor.

It can be delivered as a stand-alone qualification, or as part of a larger collection of qualifications within an Active Leisure and Learning Modern Apprenticeship at Level 3, through the pathway of Leisure/Operational Management*. This qualification is part of a suite professionally recognised by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), ideal in supporting an individual’s personal and professional development within the industry.

*For more information on apprenticeships, visit the SkillsActive website.

Please note that this qualification is designed to support experienced operatives in the industry demonstrate their competence in the workplace, possibly through a Modern Apprenticeship. This is a Level 7 SCQF competence-based qualification and, as such, simulation is not appropriate/acceptable for the majority of units due to its real workplace focus. We do not consider it appropriate for those in full-time education, but for people employed in an associated role. Please also note that the qualification’s minimum age limit of 16 is probably an underestimate. The qualification is designed for those in employment who would ideally have several years’ experience in an associated role and who are looking to progress to a management role and, as such, are likely to be older than 18.

Prior to registration, learners are required to:

  • be at least 16 years of age or over
  • have the authority to be able to meet the outcomes of the qualification, either in their current job role, or with the prior approval from their line/centre manager
  • be able to communicate effectively in English* (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing).

There are no additional pre-requisites to certification other then successful completion of the required assessments.

*Learners must be able to understand the requirements of the qualification and the information within the qualification materials in English without assistance.

The qualification is divided into the following units:

The SVQ in Leisure Management at SCQF Level 7 comprises of five mandatory units of assessment, and 18 optional units of assessment.
