This qualification is equivalent to Level 3 on the European Qualifications Framework (EQF)*.

Developed and is delivered in partnership with Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR), This qualification is designed for aspiring wheelchair rugby coaches and will prepare learners for employment in coaching wheelchair rugby, provide a benefit to learners through an introduction into the principles/practice of safe, ethical and effective management and coaching of wheelchair rugby sessions to adults and young people in an appropriate environment. The GBWR Safety Guidelines provide further guidance regarding the requirements of appropriate environments for a coach at this level. Therefore, this qualification will prepare learners for employment in coaching wheelchair rugby. In addition, the 1stsport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Wheelchair Rugby will also enable successful learners to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level if they wish to do so.

Learners are required to:

Prior to registration:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • hold a level 2 qualification in an invasion game


  • have at least 2 years wheelchair rugby playing experience


  • be appropriately identified
  • be able to communicate effectively in English (listening, speaking, reading and writing)

Prior to certification:

  • have attended a UK Coaching safeguarding workshop

To qualify for the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Wheelchair Rugby, learners must successfully achieve 13 credits from the four mandatory units. Achievement of the qualification is normally through attendance on a GBWR Programme of Learning and Assessment which ensures completion of the 1st4sport Learner Pack inclusive of all assessed tasks.

Fees are charged per learner and provide registration and certification for the qualification, as well as a 1st4sport Learner Pack, learning resources and certificate. Centre recognition, qualification approval and annual centre fees may also be applicable.

All learners being registered for RQF qualifications are required to have a Unique Learner Number (ULN) issued by the Learner Register.
