This qualification is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to enable you to coach basketball to groups of adults and/or young people. The qualification is composed of eight mandatory units.
The qualification is recognised as the industry standard level 2 qualification for coaching by the national governing bodies for Basketball in the UK, including: England Basketball, Basketball Wales and Basketball Scotland.
The qualification is endorsed by the trade association for coaches, UK Coaching, as meeting its UKCC criteria.
The qualification is designed to prepare aspiring coaches for employment as a Basketball Coach in paid or voluntary roles. It is appropriate for existing Basketball Coaching Assistants (UKCC Level 1) wishing to further develop coaching skills and deployment opportunities in Basketball.
You need to be 16 years of age or above to attend a programme of learning. Before you will be able to be certificated for this qualification you will also need to be a minimum of 18 years of age, complete Safeguarding and Protecting Children and Vulnerable Adults training and hold a current first aid qualification that covers basic life support as a minimum.
This qualification leads to paid or voluntary roles in coaching the sport of basketball to adults and young people children in local basketball clubs, in schools and in colleges. The skills and knowledge developed through this qualification may also be used enable you to progress to other industry-relevant qualifications in coaching other sports, activity leadership, supporting PE in school sport and sports development.
Following a period of practice as a qualified basketball coach, you may also choose to follow a programme of training for the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Basketball, which has been designed to meet the needs of coaches working with performance players.
Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees and they will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification, a 1st4sport Learner Pack and an appropriate learning resource.
