This qualification is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to enable you to support other, more qualified coaches to coach basketball to groups of adults and/or young people participating in basketball. The qualification is composed of seven mandatory units.

The qualification is recognised as the industry standard level 1 qualification for coaching by the national governing bodies for Basketball in the UK, including: England Basketball, Basketball Wales and Basketball Scotland.

The qualification is endorsed by the trade association for coaches, UK Coaching, as meeting its UKCC criteria.

The qualification is designed to prepare aspiring coaches for employment as a Basketball Assistant Coach in paid or voluntary roles. It is appropriate for people new to coaching wishing to develop coaching skills in basketball.

It is recommended that you have knowledge of the game of basketball, or coaching in another sport at his level prior to accessing a programme of learning and you need to be 16 years of age or above to attend.

This qualification leads to paid or voluntary roles in assistant coaching of the sport of basketball to adults and young people children in local basketball clubs, in schools and in colleges. The skills and knowledge developed through this qualification may also be used enable you to progress to other industry-relevant qualifications in coaching other sports, activity leadership, supporting PE in school sport and sports development.

Following a period of practice as a qualified netball assistant coach, you may also choose to follow a programme of training for the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Basketball, which has been designed specifically to meet the needs of coaches who are responsible for coaching a team of players and who are able to operate independently.

Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees and they will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification, a 1st4sport Qualifications Learner Pack and appropriate learning resource.
