1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Taekwondo

The objective of the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Taekwondo is to provide a benefit to learners through an introduction into the principles/practice of safe, ethical and effective management and coaching of taekwondo coaching sessions to adults and young people in an appropriate environment.
This qualification is supported by the British Taekwondo Council and British Taekwondo Control Board Limited. These organisations have collaborated on the design of this qualification and are committed to utilising this as a major stepping stone to developing the quality of coaching across home countries.
This qualification is designed for individuals preparing to work in a taekwondo coaching environment who wish to independently coach taekwondo to young people and adults, usually within a club environment. The registration requirements for this qualification are dependent on the Taekwondo pathway you wish to complete.
If you are a British Taekwondo Council learner, you are required to:
- be accurately identified
- be at least 18 years of age
- be able to communicate effectively in English3 (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing)
- hold minimum 1st degree/Dan black belt
- BTC registered Instructor course
Prior to certification learners are required to:
- hold a recognised safeguarding certificate
- hold a recognised emergency aid certificate if operating in premises where provision is not already provided
If you are a British Taekwondo Control Board learner, you are required to:
- be appropriately identified
- be at least 17 years of age
- hold a minimum 1st Dan Black Belt
- be able to communicate effectively in English.
The qualification is recognised as the industry standard level 2 qualification for coaching taekwondo in the UK.
Following a period of practice as a qualified coach, learners may choose to develop their skills by progressing to the 1st4sport Level 3 Award in the Principles for Coaching Sport.
This qualification may lead to paid or voluntary roles as a taekwondo coach or they may wish to explore other industry-relevant roles which include:
- Taekwondo Official
- Sports Volunteer.
Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees, and they will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification, a 1st4sport Learner Pack and an appropriate learning resource.
