This qualification is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to enable you to lead rowing coaching sessions to individuals and groups of adults and young people. A level 2 rowing session coach is able to plan, deliver and review rowing sessions independently, although you may work as part of a larger coaching or physical activity team

The qualification is designed to prepare aspiring coaches for employment as a Rowing Session Coach in paid or voluntary roles. It is appropriate for people new to coaching wishing to develop coaching skills in rowing.

You need to be 18 years of age or above and have completed the following online workshops on RowHow prior to attending a programme of learning:

  • Safety Basics
  • Cold Water and Hypothermia

This qualification leads to paid or voluntary roles in coaching the sport of rowing to adults and young people in schools, colleges, universities and local rowing clubs. The skills and knowledge developed through this qualification may also be used to enable you to progress to other industry-relevant qualifications e.g. in coaching other sports, activity leadership, supporting PE in school sport and sports development.

Following a period of practice as a qualified rowing session coach, you may also choose to follow a programme of training for the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Rowing, which has been designed specifically to meet the needs of coaches working with participants over a series of sessions.

Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees and they will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification, a 1st4sport Learner Pack and an appropriate learning resource.
