Structure, delivery and assessment of the L3CCROW
Qualification Structure
The L3CCROW is one of a number of optional pathways attached to the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching. The 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching is composed of five mandatory units and a number of sport-specific optional pathway units, one of which is Coaching Rowing (optional Unit 11). The combination of the rowing coaching unit with the five mandatory units creates the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Rowing. Candidates who have completed the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching via one optional pathway, may be able to claim APL for certain aspects of another pathway.
The qualification is composed of the following six units:
- Unit 1 – Analyse Performance and Goal Setting (QCA Unit No: H/103/5642)
- Unit 2 – Design a Coaching Programme (QCA Unit No: K/103/5643)
- Unit 3 – Deliver and Review Coaching Activities (QCA Unit No: M/103/5644)
- Unit 4 – Deliver a Coaching Programme (QCA Unit No: T/103/5645)
- Unit 5 – Evaluate and Develop a Coaching Programme and Practice (QCA Unit No: A/103/5646)
- Unit 11 – Coaching Rowing (QCA Unit No: K/500/4322)
It is recommended that a delivery programme for the L3CCROW should include 290 notional learning hours involving significant evidence gathering on the part of the candidate. Centres are encouraged to offer candidates high levels of support via a mentoring/support programme between the initial training programme phases and final assessment.
Assessment
Internal assessment comprises:
- the benchmarking of participants against recognised standards
- a variety of knowledge-based tasks which aim to test the breadth of the underpinning knowledge, understanding and application of all six units.
Independent assessment comprises:
- a series of tasks, through the completion of which candidates will evidence their ability to plan, implement and evaluate a coaching programme
- observations of the candidate’s planning and delivery of a rowing coaching session in the workplace.
