The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Industry and Organisational Awareness for the Active Leisure and Learning Industry is a mandatory component/technical certificate for candidates on an Apprenticeship in one area of the sector. What are the candidates prerequisites?
Candidates must be over the age of 16.
How is the qualification structured?
The qualification is divided into the following units:

How is the course delivered?
The qualification is designed to be delivered via a mixture of tutor delivered sessions, directed activities, and evidence gathering for assignments.
What will candidates gain from this qualification?
On successful completion of the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Industry and Organisational Awareness for the Active Learning and Leisure Industry, candidates will:
- know that employers and employees have a range of statutory rights and responsibilities under employment law, and that employment can be affected by other legislation as well
- know there are procedures and documentation in their organisation which recognise and protect their relationship with their employer
- know there is a range of sources of information and advice available to them on their employment rights and responsibilities
- understand the role played by their occupation within their organisation and industry
- have an informed view of the types of career pathways open to them
- know the types of representative bodies relevant to their industry and organisation, and their main roles and responsibilities
- know where and how to get information and advice on their industry, occupation, training and career
- be able to describe and work within their organisation’s principles and codes of practice
- recognise and can form a view on issues of public concern that affect their organisation and industry.
This will give them the confidence to make informed decisions about vocational and career progression as well as employment opportunities in the Active Leisure and Learning Sector.

What staff resources do I need to deliver and assess the qualification?
The key roles are:
a tutor – Responsible for and/or involved in the delivery of the learning programme and conducting aspects of the internal assessment. Might also be termed trainer-assessor and/or internal assessor.
an independent assessor – An appropriately qualified assessor, employed by the recognised centre, who has not been involved in the candidates’ programme of training or internal assessment. This person is considered to be able to provide an independent assessment without prior knowledge of candidates’ performance.
an internal verifier – Appointed (and employed) by the recognised centre to review the work of all those involved in the assessment of the qualification at that centre, to ensure consistency of assessment for candidates over a period of time.

What qualifications do tutors, assessors and verifiers need?
The same person or two different people may fulfil the roles of tutor and internal assessor. Whichever option is chosen, the centre's external verifier will wish to ensure that all persons providing training or assessment for the qualification meet the qualification-specific criteria below.
The tutor will be able to demonstrate:
- occupational competence or have recent experience of working in at least one sector of the industry
- delivery skills appropriate to the approved centre's clientel
The independent assessor will be:
- able to demonstrate occupational competence or have recent experience of working in at least one sector of the industry
- hold or be working towards EmpNTO Units D32/33 or A1, or the 1st4sport Level 3 Introduction to Assessment Practice in Sport qualification
The internal verifier will be able to demonstrate occupational competence or have recent experience of working in at least one sector of the industry.

What are the fees?
Fees are charged per candidate and provide registration and certification for the qualification, as well as a 1st4sport Qualifications Candidate Pack, learning resources and certificate. Further information on fees is available in your qualification application pack.
