1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Orienteering (L2CCO)

The L2CCO is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with The British Orienteering Federation (BOF).

*This qualification is currently being reviewed for re-accreditation and to match BOF's ambition to have the qualification as part of their UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) endorsed coaching programme.

Who is the L2CCO for?

Adults (over 16 years of age) with orienteering experience and an interest in coaching.

Candidates should have performed to at least the light green standard level at a single event in the past 12 months and hold a current first aid certificate (minimum of a four-hour course, which covers CPR and EAV).

Why deliver the L2CCO?

  • Orienteering is recognised as a competitive sport and an excellent vehicle for the delivery of a variety of key skills. It is widely recognised as a mechanism to introduce young people to the outdoors. The qualification has a broad market for those both interested in coaching the sport and those wishing to use it as a safe outdoor educational activity.
  • Students in further or higher education, studying sports-related qualifications, might also wish to pursue this vocational qualification as a rung on the coaching ladder or as a component of an outdoor education programme.

What can candidates use the L2CCO for?

  • To coach the skills and techniques of orienteering to adults and children, as defined by the Practical Syllabus (up to Step 3 on the BOF Step System and in BOF Grade A and B areas).
  • As part of the development of a credible CV for employment in the sport and recreation industry.
  • To progress on to a Sport and Recreation Level 2 NVQ in Coaching, Teaching and Instructing Orienteering and other vocationally related coaching qualifications.
