The L2CCBB is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with the National Source Group for Basketball. The L2CCBB is accredited at Level 2 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework.

Who is the L2CCBB for?
- Adults (over 18 years of age) who hold the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Basketball (or equivalent) and who would like to develop and improve their coaching skills.
- Students in further or higher education, studying sports-related qualifications, might also wish to pursue this vocational qualification as a further progression on the coaching ladder.
Why deliver the L2CCBB?
- To form part of a structured and progressive programme of sports coaching and other related qualifications, offering candidates access and involvement in the sport of basketball.
- As a further progression on the basketball coaching ladder, providing progression opportunities for potential coaches.
What can candidates use the L2CCBB for?
- To gain paid or unpaid employment as a basketball coach.
- As part of the development of a credible CV for employment in the sport and recreation industry.
- As evidence towards the achievement of a Level 2 N/SVQ in Sport and Recreation.
Structure, delivery and assessment of the L2CCBB
Qualification Structure
The Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Basketball is composed of four mandatory units assessed in the context of basketball (Unit 13).
- Unit 1 – Coaching Principles and Ethics in Basketball (QCA Unit No: J/103/1020)
- Unit 2 – Plan Basketball Coaching Sessions (QCA Unit No: L/103/1021)
- Unit 3 – Conduct Basketball Coaching Sessions (QCA Unit No: R/103/1022)
- Unit 4 – Review Basketball Coaching Sessions (QCA Unit No: Y/103/1023)
- Unit 11 – Coaching Basketball (QCA Unit No: K/500/3686)
NB: To complete the L2CCBB, candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
It is recommended that a delivery programme for the L2CCBB should include a minimum of 92 notional guided learning hours.
Assessment
Internal assessment comprises a series of assessed tasks that explore candidates' understanding of:
- safe and ethical coaching in basketball
- the preparation required to deliver basketball coaching sessions
- the delivery and evaluation of basketball coaching sessions.
One aspect of the internal assessment includes an observation of a planned practical coaching session and evaluation.
Independent assessment comprises observed assessment of a basketball coaching session.
Tutor/Assessor and Internal Verifier Criteria
The generic 1st4sport Qualifications criteria for tutors, assessors and verifiers (see the Centre Recognition Application Form or the Recognised Centre Handbook) must be adhered to. The additional L2CCBB requirements include the following criteria:
Tutors of the L2CCBB must:
- have a minimum of a Level 3 Award in Coaching Basketball or the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Basketball, or equivalent
- hold a recognised teaching qualification, hold the 1st4sport Certificate in Tutoring in Sport (CTS) or equivalent, or have attended a programme of tutor-training matched to national standards
- hold a current tutor licence with the National Source Group for Basketball
- attend appropriate qualification-specific induction training.
Assessors of the L2CCBB must:
- have a minimum of a Level 3 Award in Coaching Basketball or the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Basketball, or equivalent
- hold or be working towards completing the ENTO Unit D32/33, the A1/A2 Assessor Units, hold the 1st4sport Introduction to Assessment Practice in Sport (IAPS) or equivalent, or have attended a programme of assessor-training matched to national standards
- hold a current assessor licence with the National Source Group for Basketball
- attend appropriate qualification-specific induction training.
Internal verifiers for the L2CCBB must meet the generic 1st4sport Qualifications criteria for internal verifiers and must:
- have a minimum of a Level 3 Award in Coaching Basketball or the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Basketball, or equivalent
- hold a recognised teaching qualification, hold the 1st4sport Certificate in Tutoring in Sport (CTS) or equivalent, or have attended a programme of tutor-training matched to national standards
- hold or be working towards completing the ENTO Unit D34, the V1 Verifier Unit, or the 1st4sport Introduction to Internal Verification Practice in Sport
- hold a current tutor/assessor licence with the National Source Group for Basketball
- attend appropriate qualification-specific induction training.
