1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Badminton (L2CCBAD)

The L2CCBAD is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with the National Source Group for Badminton. The L2CCBAD is accredited at Level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework.

Who is the L2CCBAD for?

  • Adults (over 18 years of age) who hold the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Badminton (or equivalent) and would like to develop and improve their coaching skills.
  • Students in further or higher education, studying sports-related qualifications, might also wish to pursue this vocational qualification as a further progression on the coaching ladder.

Why deliver the L2CCBAD?

  • To form part of a structured and progressive programme of sports coaching and other related qualifications, offering candidates access and involvement in the sport of badminton.
  • As a further progression on the badminton coaching ladder, providing progression opportunities for potential coaches.

What can candidates use the L2CCBAD for?

  • To gain paid or unpaid employment as a badminton coach.
  • As part of the development of a credible CV for employment in the sport and recreation industry.
  • As evidence towards the achievement of a Level 2 N/SVQ in Sport and Recreation.
  • As a stepping-stone to the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Badminton (L3CCBAD).

Structure, delivery and assessment of the L2CCBAD

Qualification Structure

The L2CCBAD is composed of four mandatory units assessed in the context of badminton (Unit 15).

  • Unit 1 – Coaching Principles and Ethics in Badminton (QCA Unit No: J/103/1020)
  • Unit 2 – Plan Badminton Coaching Sessions (QCA Unit No: L/103/1021)
  • Unit 3 – Conduct Badminton Coaching Sessions (QCA Unit No: R/103/1022)
  • Unit 4 – Review Badminton Coaching Sessions (QCA Unit No: Y/103/1023)
  • Unit 15 – Coaching Badminton (QCA Unit No: L/500/4930)

NB: To complete the L2CCBAD, candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age. It is recommended that a delivery programme for the L2CCBAD should include a minimum of 100 notional learning hours.

Assessment

Internal assessment comprises a series of assessed tasks that explore candidates' understanding of:

  • coaching principles and ethics in badminton
  • how to plan badminton coaching sessions
  • the delivery of badminton coaching sessions
  • how to review badminton coaching sessions.

One aspect of the internal assessment includes observation of a planned practical coaching session and evaluation.

Independent assessment comprises observed assessment of a badminton coaching session.

Tutor/Assessor and Internal Verifier Criteria

The generic 1st4sport Qualifications criteria for tutors, assessors and verifiers (see the Centre Recognition Application Form or the Recognised Centre Handbook) must be adhered to. The additional L2CCBAD requirements include the following criteria:

Tutors/ assessors of the L2CCBAD are required to:

  • have a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in coaching badminton or the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Badminton, or equivalent
  • hold the 1st4sport Certificate in Tutoring in Sport (CTS), the sportscotland Coach Educator Award or have evidence of the successful completion of a programme of training mapped to nationally recognised standards
  • have attended sports coach UK assessor training and be working towards the 1st4sport Introduction to Assessment Practice in Sport (IAPS), or hold A1 or D32/D33 units
  • be an accredited badminton tutor/assessor with Badminton England, Badminton Scotland or the Welsh Badminton Union
  • successfully complete appropriate qualification-specific induction training.

Independent assessors of the L2CCBAD are required to:

  • have a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in coaching badminton or the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Badminton, or equivalent
  • have attended sports coach UK assessor training and be working towards the 1st4sport Introduction to Assessment Practice in Sport (IAPS), or hold A1 or D32/D33 units
  • be an accredited badminton assessor with Badminton England, Badminton Scotland or the Welsh Badminton Union
  • successfully complete appropriate qualification-specific induction training.

Internal verifiers are required to:

  • have attended sports coach UK assessor training and hold the 1st4sport Introduction to Assessment Practice in Sport (IAPS), or hold A1 or D32/D33 units
  • have a minimum of a Level 2 coaching qualification in coaching badminton or the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Badminton, or equivalent
  • hold or be working towards completing the ENTO Unit D34, the V1 Verifier Unit or the 1st4sport Certificate in Internal Verification Practice in Sport
  • be an accredited badminton verifier with Badminton England, Badminton Scotland or the Welsh Badminton Union
  • successfully complete appropriate qualification-specific induction training.
