Structure, Delivery and Assessment of the L1CCF
Qualification Structure
The L1CCF is one of the many optional coaching pathways attached to the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching. The Level 1 Certificate in Coaching is composed of three mandatory units and a number of sport-specific optional pathway units, one of which is coaching football (optional Unit 9). The combination of the football coaching unit with the three mandatory units creates the Level 1 Certificate in Football. Candidates who have completed the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching via one optional pathway may be able to claim APL for certain aspects of another pathway.
The qualification is composed of the following four units:
- Unit 1 – Introduction to Safe and Ethical Coaching (QCA Unit No: M/103/5014)
- Unit 2 – Prepare to Deliver Coaching Activities (QCA Unit No: T/103/5015)
- Unit 3 – Deliver and Review Coaching Activities (QCA Unit No: A/103/5016)

Many of our current approved centres are separately endorsed by The FA to deliver these components. Approved centres aspiring to deliver this qualification are required to evidence that they can access the two FA components or facilitate access for all candidates. For more information on either the child protection or emergency aid components, please log on to the FA Learning website at www.thefa.com/falearning.
It is recommended that a delivery programme for the L1CCF should include a minimum of 35 notional guided learning hours, including ten hours’ directed study. Visit www.thefa.com/falearning to view a number of online components of the delivery programme that are available to learners. For candidates unable to access online learning materials, an additional 8+ hours of tutor-led sessions should be scheduled to ensure that candidates are provided with all the knowledge needed to achieve the qualification.
