Talented athletes need support to overcome the challenges they face both on and off the sports field, such as work, their family and social life, injury, illness and psychological issues, all of which can create conflict and pressure within their training schedule and personal commitments. Developed in partnership with experts at The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS), the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support (L3CTALS) recognises the necessary knowledge and practical skills required to provide that support and ensures they realise both their sporting and academic potential.
On certification learners will be able to provide appropriate supervision and guidance to athletes throughout their career, from talent identification right through to elite level.
They will be qualified to:
- identify lifestyle factors that may affect an athlete’s performance
- anticipate and manage transitional stages in the athlete’s life such as moving into work, or higher education
- provide effective help with anti-doping and drugs-testing issues.

Who is the Qualification for?
Anyone over 18 years old who is involved in sport who supports, or would like to support, talented athletes and ensure they realise both their sporting and academic potential.
The qualification is particularly beneficial for those responsible for the management or coordination of:
- a Sport Scholarship Scheme in a school, college or university
- TASS athletes
- Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) athletes
Students in initial teacher training specialising in PE, or local qualified PE teachers, will also find taking this qualification useful in relation to supporting talented athletes on the Youth Sports Trust (YST) Gifted and Talented programme.
The qualification is ideal for governing body of sport staff* to hold, providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to adopt a more athlete-focused approach to their work.
*Any office based staff will require the governing body of sports support to provide an appropriate talented athlete for the 6 month case study.

What are the Learner Prerequisites?
Learners must be over 18 years old. In addition during the course of the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support learners are required to attend supplementary workshops and provide the following evidence:
- a certificate of attendance at a recognised Child Protection course
- a certificate of attendance at an Anti-Doping in Sport tutor training course
By the end of the course learners need to have evidence of having worked with a talented athlete of an appropriate level, for at least six months.
How is the Qualification Structured?
The qualification is divided into the following units:

There are 120 recommended learning hours for learners to complete the qualification, of which 60 are guided learning hours.

What are the Fees?
Fees are charged per learner and provide registration and certification for the qualification, as well as a 1st4sport Learner Pack, including assessment tasks and certificate. There are no costs involved in applying or becoming a 1st4sport recognised centre. Further information about fees is available from your qualification application form.

How do I Apply?
If you are not already a 1st4sport recognised centre, but would like to deliver the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support, you will first need to fill in a Centre Recognition Application Form. You can also apply to deliver this qualification at the same time by filling in a Qualification Approval Form. The qualification-specific criteria detailing the experience and qualifications your workforce will need to be able to run the qualification will be in this form.

We don’t charge you any fees to apply to deliver this qualification.
