It provides candidates with the opportunity to develop the principles of coordinating sports volunteers and enables them to study both the theoretical and practical aspects of coordinating volunteers in a sporting context.
Candidates will be able to:
- get the best out of themselves and those they work with
- maximise their clubs’/organisations’ recruitment, recognition and rewarding of volunteers
- describe, understand and develop the key aspects of a sports-development plan to ensure their clubs’/organisations’ potential is fulfilled
- lead on sport equity* and develop their clubs’/organisations’ partnerships with relevant parties to meet this challenge.
*Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society. - Sport England

Any volunteer over the age of 16 at a sports club who has a role in managing, governing or running a club, and is interested in enhancing their skills and ability to perform these roles more effectively.
Why deliver this qualification?
The only sport-specific volunteering qualification for coordinators of sports volunteers
There are over six million volunteers in England alone who contribute more than 1.2 billion hours to sport each year (Sport England, 2008). However, there has never been any sport-specific learning to provide these people with the knowledge and skills needed to help them perform in their role: until now! That’s what makes this qualification ideal for you to add to your existing provision, especially with The London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games on the horizon, which will depend on up to 70,000 volunteers to make sure they run smoothly and successfully.
Ensuring sport continues to flourish
By choosing to deliver this qualification, the sports volunteering community will benefit by having a complete understanding of what it takes to effectively coordinate sports volunteers – enhancing their ability to run their club.
