There are no costs involved in applying or becoming a 1st4sport recognised centre.
The 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Preparation for Event Volunteering (Personal Best) has been developed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to gain a volunteering position at a public event, such as sporting occasions and music concerts, and act appropriately in that role.
On successful completion learners will be guaranteed an interview to be a volunteer at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and will be able to understand:
- what they need to do to get into volunteering
- the skills required to volunteer at public events
- the best way to handle difficult situations and areas of potential conflict
- key aspects of health and safety
- the role of volunteers within the 2012 Games
- the importance of teamwork.

Who is the Qualification for?
Anyone over the age of 16 who is interested in volunteering and, in particular, would like to apply to be involved at the 2012 Games as a volunteer. Individuals who are unemployed will find this qualification particularly useful in boosting their skills, so they can go on to gain employment.

What are the Fees?
Fees are charged per learner and provide registration and certification for the qualification, as well as a 1st4sport Learner Pack, learning resources and certificate. There are no costs involved in applying or becoming a 1st4sport recognised centre. Further information on fees is available from your qualification application form.

How do I Apply?
Before you can become recognised to deliver this qualification, you must approach Bansari Somani at SkillsActive (Bansari.Somani@skillsactive.com) who will be able to direct you to the regional authority responsible for approving providers of the Personal Best project and you can then begin the process of applying to become a 1st4sport recognised centre, as detailed below
If you are not already a 1st4sport recognised centre, but would like to deliver the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Preparation for Event Volunteering (Personal Best), you will first need to fill in a Centre Recognition Application Form.

If you are already a 1st4sport recognised centre and would like to seek approval to deliver the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Preparation for Event Volunteering (Personal Best), please access Athena, the 1st4sport quality assurance system, and complete the qualification approval process. If you cannot remember your username and password, please contact us.
We don’t charge you any fees to apply to deliver this qualification.
