Who is the Qualification for?

Anyone over the age of 16 who is looking to learn more about the employment opportunities in the sector. Those studying sports-related courses would also find this qualification useful in giving them a better understanding of the sector and their employment rights and responsibilities. In particular, anyone pursuing a relevant apprenticeship will need to complete the qualification as the mandatory technical certificate for apprenticeships in the sector.

Why Deliver this Qualification?

Removal of independent assessment component

The previous qualification, the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Industry and Organisational Awareness for the Active Leisure and Learning Industry, had three components: tutor input, internal assessments and independent assessments. To meet this standard centres delivering the qualification needed a minimum of one tutor/internal assessor (they could be the same person) and one independent assessor. The 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Learning and Leisure now only has two components: tutor input and assessment. To meet this standard centres delivering the qualification only need one person that can deliver and assess.

This means you can:

  • reduce delivery and assessment costs - saving you money of having to pay someone to carry out the independent assessment
  • save time as the tutor and delivery can be done side by side to the completion of the qualification
  • increase achievement rates of the qualification

The removal of this component also makes the qualification even more stream line and puts less burden on the amount of work the learner has to complete.

User-friendly qualification

The qualification standards have recently undergone a redevelopment and been dramatically reduced. This took into account research and feedback from industry experts, employees and employers and was conducted by SkillsActive, the sector skills council. As a consequence, the 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Learning and Leisure has been streamlined to fulfil the requirements of the industry, allowing for more user-friendly qualification.

Excellent support

We provide excellent supporting materials and learning resources to make teaching and learning as simple as possible for you and your learners.

Delivery of apprenticeships simplified

We offer many of the other components of apprenticeships and advanced apprenticeships for a variety of the available pathways in the sector and not just the employment awareness technical certificates. These include NVQs and other additional employer requirements needed to demonstrate industry skills. So, you can benefit from having only one awarding body’s procedures to follow when administering the majority of the components for your apprenticeship or advanced apprenticeship programmes. If you would like to know more about apprenticeships, please visit www.apprenticeships.org.uk.

A mandatory component of an apprenticeship

The 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning is a mandatory component/technical certificate for learners on an apprenticeship. This ensures a healthy demand for the qualification.
