With the success of the British track cycling team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, interest in the sport of track cycling has never been so great. Developed in partnership with the National Source Group for Cycling, the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Track Cycling recognises the advanced level of knowledge needed to qualify more senior coaches to profile track cyclists and develop annual training programmes appropriate to their needs and level of performance. The qualification is the minimum qualification required to seek employment/deployment as a coach prescribing training programmes to individual track riders and deliver the activities contained within the British Cycling Go-Ride Track Gear 7. The British Cycling Go-Ride Track Gear 7 contains activities covering a range of advanced techniques and tactics required by riders as they move from regional to international level track cycling competition.

Who is the Qualification for?
For the more experienced coach who is over 18 years of age and fits the qualification prerequisite criteria and would like to develop and improve their track cycling coaching skills. Senior coaches within the British Cycling performance or club structure and existing holders of the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Cycling may decide they wish to develop their knowledge and coaching skills to enable them to profile track cyclists and develop annual training programmes. Students in further or higher education, studying sports-related coaching qualifications, should pursue this qualification as a valuable addition to their portfolio of coaching skills.

This qualification has been developed with the National Source Group for Cycling, made up of representatives from the home country governing bodies of sport for cycling – British Cycling, Welsh Cycling, and Scottish Cycling. This UK-wide standardisation of the delivery of coach education has ensured the sport has been able to gain UKCC-endorsement for the coach education programme within which the qualification sits. The result: you can be confident this is the only UKCC-endorsed Level 3 Track Cycling coaching qualification available.
Introduces the concept of profiling riders against benchmarks within the professional sport
The ability to profile track cyclists makes it possible to develop specific goals for them to work towards, ensuring that, with regular progress reviews, they make recordable progress. Senior coaches at regional level will therefore find this qualification ideal.

What are the Learner Prerequisites?
Learners are required to:
- be at least 18 years of age
- hold a 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Cycling, or equivalent, or a 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching in another cycling discipline
- have completed the British Cycling Level 2 Track Cycling Award, or an equivalent programme of training, that covers all of the prerequisite techniques described in the Practical Syllabus
- hold a current and recognised appointed person’s first-aid certificate, or equivalent, that involves a minimum of six hours’ training.

What are the Fees?
Fees are charged per learner and provide registration and certification for the qualification, as well as a 1st4sport Learner Pack, learning resources and certificate. If you are already a 1st4sport recognised centre and would like to seek approval to deliver the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Track Cycling, please access Athena, the 1st4sport quality assurance system, and complete the qualification approval process.
