The world’s biggest racket sport and an Olympic sport since 1988, table tennis is played by around two million people in Britain, making coaches of the sport in demand. Developed in partnership with the National Source Group for Table Tennis, the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Table Tennis is the first qualification on the table tennis coaching ladder. Designed to provide learners with an introduction to the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching table tennis, the foundational level of knowledge recognised in this qualification will enable them to develop an understanding of safe, ethical and effective coaching. Those who complete this certificate will be able to assist other more qualified coaches in delivering table tennis coaching sessions to players of all ages.

Who is the Qualification for?

Anyone over 16 years of age, who would like to develop their coaching skills in the sport of table tennis. Parents of children playing table tennis who would like to become more involved, sports centre staff, teachers, youth workers and volunteers would also find this qualification supported their involvement in the sport. Students in further or higher education, studying sports-related coaching qualifications, should pursue this qualification as a valuable addition to their portfolio of coaching skills.

Why Deliver this Qualification?

Developed in partnership with the experts – UKCC Endorsed

This qualification has been developed with the National Source Group for Table Tennis, made up of representatives from the home country governing bodies of sport for table tennis – The English Table Tennis Association, Irish Table Tennis Association, Table Tennis Scotland and the Table Tennis Association of Wales. This UK-wide standardisation of the delivery of coach education has ensured the sport has been able to gain UKCC-endorsement for the coach education programme within which the qualification sits. The result: you can be confident this is the only UKCC-endorsed Level 1 Table Tennis coaching qualification available.

Provides a progression route for coaches

The 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Table Tennis is the first rung on the table tennis coaching ladder, why not offer the full progressive suite and allow budding table tennis coaches clear progression from Level 1 through to Level 3?

Prerequisites

Prior to certification, learners are required to:

  • be at least 16 years of age
  • hold an appropriate emergency first-aid certificate
  • have evidence of having attended an appropriate child protection workshop.

There are 33 recommended learning hours for learners to complete the qualification, of which 22 are guided learning hours.

Fees

Fees are charged per learner and provide registration and certification for the qualification, as well as a 1st4sport Learner Pack, learning resources and certificate. There are no costs involved in applying or becoming a 1st4sport recognised centre. Further information on fees is available from your qualification application form.

If you are not already a 1st4sport recognised centre, but would like to deliver the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Table Tennis, you will first need to fill in a Centre Recognition Application Form.

If you are already a 1st4sport recognised centre and would like to seek approval to deliver the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Table Tennis, please access Athena, the 1st4sport quality assurance system, and complete the qualification approval process. If you cannot remember your username and password, please contact us.

We don’t charge you any fees to apply to deliver this qualification.
