
The Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Coaching is designed for those individuals who wish to create a solid foundation allowing them to follow a career in coach sport. The sports that have created qualifications within this framework are Tennis and Swimming, who see the new framework supporting coaches who are employed within a community and/or club setting. These specialist frameworks have been designed to support those particular sports in developing professional competent coaches.

1. Competency
Learners must choose from one of the two following pathways.
Pathway 1
Learners must complete the following competency qualification to successfully achieve this apprenticeship:
1st4sport Level 2 Diploma in Coaching Learn to Swim (QCF)

2. Knowledge
Learners must choose from one of the two following pathways and complete a minimum of one qualification within the chosen pathway to successfully achieve this apprenticeship:
Swimming
Tennis

3. Employee rights and responsibilities
Learners must complete the following mandatory technical certificate in employment awareness to successfully achieve this apprenticeship:

Learners must complete the following Functional Skills qualifications to successfully achieve this apprenticeship:

5. Additional employer requirements
To help support each of the identified pathways learners can choose to complete any of the additional qualifications from the list below:
- Any 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching or 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching can be used for apprentices working on sites where they are responsible for delivering coaching sessions in a context of a specific sport.

How You Can Offer 1st4sport’s Qualifications
Non-1st4sport recognised centres
If you are not already a 1st4sport recognised centre, you need to apply to become one by completing a Centre Recognition Application Form. You can now do this online through Athena, the 1st4sport online Quality Assurance System, where you can also apply to become approved for the qualification(s) that interest you. To access Athena simply call us on 0113-290 7610 to receive a unique access code or fill in the Request for Centre Recognition Application Form and we will send you one.
Existing 1st4sport recognised centres
If you are already a 1st4sport recognised centre and would like to seek approval to deliver any qualifications that can be used as part of an Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Activity Leadership, please access Athena and complete the qualification approval process for the qualification you are interested in.
