To find out how to apply to deliver this qualification see the How to Apply section. There are no costs involved in applying or becoming a 1st4sport recognised centre.

The 1st4sport Level 2 NVQ in Spectator Safety is an occupational competence-based qualification that provides learners with an opportunity to be assessed, over a period of time, on both the practical and theoretical aspects of stewarding in the workplace.

The qualification covers competence in the following areas:

  • Prepare for Spectator Events
  • Control the Entry, Exit and Movement of People at Spectator Events
  • Monitor Spectators and Deal with Crowd Problems
  • Help to Manage Conflict
  • Contribute to the Work of Your Team
  • Deal with Accidents and Emergencies
  • Control and Detain People at a Spectator Event for Action by the Police (optional).

It’s ideal for those who have already taken either of 1st4sport’s steward training qualifications – the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Event and Match Day Stewarding (L2CEMS) or the 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events (L2AUSSE) – as it provides confirmation of their ability to steward in a safe and effective manner. Your learners would also benefit from having already produced some of the evidence required to achieve the NVQ, as much of the evidence gathered in the completion of either of the training qualifications will be eligible as accreditation of prior learning/achievement (APL/A).

Nationally recognised, this qualification provides learners with the flexibility to work at any type of live event.

Who is the Qualification for?

Anyone over 18 years old who wishes to become a qualified steward. The qualification is also ideally suited to those who have completed the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Event and Match Day Stewarding or the 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events who wish to confirm their ability to safely and effectively steward at a live event.

Why Deliver this Qualification?

Excellent support

Unlike many other awarding bodies, which just supply you with the basic qualification standards, we go a step further, providing you with full and comprehensive learner and tutor/assessor packs. These packs include support materials making the qualifications simple but effective to implement. The administration of all our qualifications is also now carried out via the 1st4sport online service, enabling you to process learners quickly and effectively and making the records we hold on your learners accessible to you at the click of a mouse.

Natural progression from either of 1st4sport’s training qualifications

Centres offering the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Event and Match Day Stewarding or the 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events will find offering the NVQ ideal for their learners. The Level 2 qualifications provide confirmation of learners’ competence as a steward, while the NVQ takes them on to the next stage – an assessed confirmation of their competence in the workplace over time.

Comprehensive package of training and assessment

Should you choose to offer the other qualifications in this suite, you will be providing your learners with a more complete offering that is a totally flexible, streamlined and progressive.

  • Flexible: There is a choice of qualification to meet each learner’s individual circumstances.
  • Streamlined: The qualifications take advantage of the use of APL/A, reducing the duplication of work and saving you time and money.
  • Progressive: Whether learners are new to the industry or experienced and wanting to advance to a more senior role, the qualifications provide a progressive pathway for them to follow.

High demand for the qualification

With a recognised Level 2 qualification being a compulsory requirement for stewards within football stadiums, and highly desirable at other live events, qualified stewards are becoming increasingly essential for any live occasion. In addition, forthcoming events such as The London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games will undoubtedly lead to a rise in demand.
