As the UK’s national and most popular sport, qualified football coaches are forever in demand. Developed in partnership with FA Learning, the education arm of The Football Association, the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Football progresses from the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football to enable coaches to profile football players and develop annual training programmes that are appropriate to their needs and level of performance with the intention of getting the best out of their talented footballers. By building on the Level 2 qualification, the advanced level of knowledge needed by more senior coaches is recognised, to effectively apply the principles of performance profiling, goal setting and designing, planning and evaluating a coaching programme and practice. Holders of the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Football may seek employment as football coaches in a club, academy or centre of excellence.

Learners who achieve both the 1st4sport Level 2 and Level 3 Certificates in Coaching Football are entitled to be certificated for the FA-awarded UEFA B Coaching Award.

Who is the Qualification for?

Anyone over 18 years of age who coaches and trains in a club/team environment and is interested in developing and improving his or her football coaching skills. Existing holders of the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football may decide that they wish to develop and improve their coaching skills to enable them to profile football players and develop annual training programmes. Students in further or higher education, studying sports-related coaching qualifications, should pursue this qualification as a valuable addition to their portfolio of coaching skills. The UEFA B Coaching Award is the minimum requirement for coaches wishing to work within the professional club structure.

What are the Learner Prerequisites?

Learners are required to:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • hold, or be able to demonstrate the competencies of, the Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football
  • hold a current emergency-aid certificate (as a minimum)
  • have successfully completed the FA Laws of the Game Examination or be a currently qualified football referee (Level 7 or below).

What are the Fees?

Fees are charged per learner and provide registration and certification for the qualification, as well as a 1st4sport Learner Pack, learning resources and certificate.
