Overview

The 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Outdoor Programmes (QCF) is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with industry experts in the outdoors and SkillsActive – the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure, Learning and Well-being. The qualification is solely administered and awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications as the Ofqual-recognised awarding organisation.

The 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Outdoor Programmes (QCF) can be used to provide you with an accredited qualification in the area of outdoor programmes in the context of outdoor recreation, outdoor education or outdoor development training.

Criteria

The 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Outdoor Programmes (QCF) is for anyone over 18 years of age who wants to learn more about outdoor programmes with a view to gaining employment in the outdoor industry.

The learning outcomes will depend on the pathway you are assessed in. These pathways are:

  • Outdoor Recreation
  • Outdoor Education
  • Outdoor Development Training.

Outdoor Recreation Pathway

The aim of the 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Outdoor Programmes (QCF) (Outdoor Recreation Pathway) is to provide you with the knowledge and skills to enable you to:

  • contribute to improving personal and organisational performance
  • organise people and resources for outdoor programmes
  • ensure the health, safety, welfare and security of customers and staff
  • promote the conservation of the environment
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships in the outdoors.

Depending on which optional units are selected, you could also be provided with the knowledge and skills to enable you to:

  • allocate and monitor the progress and quality of work in own area of responsibility
  • design outdoor recreation programmes
  • facilitate recreation in the outdoors
  • support the efficient use of resources
  • provide leadership in own area of responsibility
  • organise and supervise travel
  • understand how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people
  • supervise residential experiences
  • contribute to the prevention and management of abusive and aggressive behaviour
  • enable disabled people to take part in activities
  • facilitate adventurous experiences
  • facilitate participants’ investigation and understanding of the environment.

The aim of the 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Outdoor Programmes (QCF) (Outdoor Education Pathway) is to provide you with the knowledge and skills to enable you to:

  • contribute to improving personal and organisational performance
  • organise people and resources for outdoor programmes
  • ensure the health, safety, welfare and security of customers and staff
  • promote the conservation of the environment
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships in the outdoors
  • facilitate education in the outdoors
  • promote the transfer of learning from outdoor experiences.

Depending on which optional units are selected, you could also be provided with the knowledge and skills to enable you to:

  • design outdoor education programmes

  • organise people and resources for outdoor programmes
  • ensure the health, safety, welfare and security of customers and staff
  • promote the conservation of the environment
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships in the outdoors
  • design outdoor development training programmes
  • facilitate learning using outdoor development training
  • promote the transfer of learning from outdoor experiences.

Depending on which optional units are selected, you could also be provided with the knowledge and skills to enable you to:

How will my learning programme be structured?

Learning programmes are usually designed by the recognised centre that delivers the qualification. They may, therefore, vary in length and format. Depending on your needs, delivery centres can offer intensive courses or a series of learning events over a period of weeks. Whatever the timescale, all learning programmes should include the following phases:

  • an induction to the qualification and your programme of learning and assessment
  • a learning programme which meets your needs and the qualification requirements
  • a programme of assessment, spread throughout the course, including observations of you carrying out your duties in relation to outdoor programmes.

At the end of the programme, you will be provided with formal feedback on your performance and an action plan for your further development.

What will my assessment involve?
The 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Outdoor Programmes (QCF) assessment will require you to demonstrate competence on more than one occasion in all of your chosen units. This will involve a mixture of observation of performance, product evidence, witness testimony and questioning.

Fees

Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees and they will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification, a 1st4sport Qualifications Learner Pack and an appropriate learning resource.
