The qualification may be used to further your career development within the sector and is a good stepping stone for those looking to progress into team leader or duty manager roles. The units within the qualification cover a range of areas:
Mandatory units – you must achieve all of these units:
- Open and close mechanical rides to the public

- Contribute to the health and safety of mechanical ride operation

How will my learning programme be structured?
Learning programmes are usually designed by the recognised centre that delivers the qualification. They may, therefore, vary in length and format. Depending on your needs, delivery centres can offer intensive courses or a series of learning events over a period of weeks. Whatever the timescale, all learning programmes should include the following phases:
- an induction to the qualification and your programme of learning and assessment
- a learning programme that meets your needs and qualification requirements
- a programme of assessment, spread throughout the course, including observations of you carrying out your duties.
At the end of the programme, you will be provided with feedback on your achievement and an action plan for your further development.
Assessment
The 1st4sport Level 2 NVQ Award in Mechanical Ride Operation (QCF) assessment will require you demonstrate competence on more than one occasion in the ability to operate mechanical rides safely, ensuring those rides are safe for public use and responding to any faults and emergencies that may arise. This will involve a mixture of observation of performance, product evidence, witness testimony and questioning.
Fees
Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees, and these will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification, a 1st4sport Learner Pack and an appropriate learning resource.
