Level 2 Leisure Operations

Overview

The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Leisure Operations (QCF) is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been professionally recognised by CIMSPA – the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity. This qualification is not available in Scotland, although an equivalent version may be available from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Leisure Operations (QCF) is regulated at Level 2 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and forms part of a suite of qualifications in the area of facility operations and management. Criteria

If you are over 16 years of age and working, or aspiring to work, in the leisure industry, then the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Leisure Operations (QCF) is designed for you.

Why Study?

It covers the knowledge and skills required to prepare you for employment as an operational member of staff in the active leisure sector.

Typical job titles in the industry include:

  • leisure attendant
  • recreation assistant.

The qualification is primarily aimed at learners who are new to these roles and, as such, it may be used to form part of an induction into the job role. It may also be used for existing members of staff who need further training and development.

What can I use it for?

  • To gain paid or unpaid employment working within the leisure industry.
  • As part of the development of a credible CV for employment in the sport, recreation and allied occupations industry.
  • As a stepping stone to the 1st4sport Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Active Leisure, Learning and Well-being Operational Services (QCF).

Outline

On successful completion of the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Leisure Operations (QCF), you should:

  • understand the active leisure and learning sector
  • understand employment rights and responsibilities
  • understand customer care and diversity in active leisure
  • understand health, safety, security and welfare in active leisure
  • understand how to develop self in an active leisure job role
  • understand how to clean in active leisure
  • understand how to handle and maintain equipment in active leisure
  • understand teamwork in active leisure
  • have emergency first aid skills.

How will my learning programme be structured?

Learning programmes are usually designed by the recognised centre that delivers the qualification. They may, therefore, vary in length and format. Depending on your needs, delivery centres can offer intensive courses or a series of learning events over a period of weeks. Whatever the timescale, all learning programmes should include the following phases:

  • an induction to the qualification and your programme of learning and assessment
  • a learning programme that meets your needs, focusing on the knowledge and skills required to work in the leisure industry
  • a programme of assessment, combining written tasks and observations within simulated environments, carried out by an appropriately qualified assessor.

At the end of the programme, you will be provided with formal feedback on your performance and an action plan for your further development.

Assessment

The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Leisure Operations (QCF) assessment will require you to complete tasks on:

  • employment rights and responsibilities
  • the active leisure industry
  • career development within active leisure and learning
  • customer care
  • health, safety and security in active leisure
  • teamwork in active leisure
  • cleaning in active leisure
  • handling and maintaining equipment in active leisure
  • emergency first aid.

Fees

Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees, and they will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification, a 1st4sport Learner Pack and an appropriate learning resource.
