Overview
The 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Leisure Management (QCF) is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with IMSPA – the Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity. This qualification is not available in Scotland, although we hope to award the qualification there soon.
The 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Leisure Management (QCF) is regulated at Level 3 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and forms part of a suite of qualifications in the area of facility operations and management. Criteria
If you are over 16 years of age and working in the leisure industry with duty or line management responsibilities, then the 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Leisure Management (QCF) is designed for you.

Outline
On successful completion of the 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Leisure Management (QCF), you should:
- understand and be able to lead a team in active leisure
- understand and be able to promote customer care in active leisure
- understand and be able to manage health, safety and welfare in active leisure
- understand the active leisure and learning sector
- understand employment rights and responsibilities
- understand the employing organisation
- understand and manage own continuing professional development in active leisure.
Dependent on optional units completed, you may also:
- understand and be able to implement financial procedures in active leisure
- understand how to deliver objectives through the work of an active leisure team
- understand and be able to supervise facility maintenance in active leisure
- understand and be able to contribute to marketing in active leisure
- understand and be able to sell services and products to customers in active leisure
- understand and be able to operate swimming pool plant
- address performance problems affecting team members
- promote learning and development in active leisure
- manage physical resources in active leisure
- plan, organise and evaluate active leisure services
- contribute to the prevention and management of abusive and aggressive behaviour
- develop productive working relationships with colleagues.
How will my learning programme be structured?
Learning programmes are usually designed by the recognised centre that delivers the qualification. They may, therefore, vary in length and format. Depending on your needs, delivery centres can offer intensive courses or a series of learning events over a period of weeks. Whatever the timescale, all learning programmes should include the following phases:
- an induction to the qualification and your programme of learning and assessment
- a learning programme that meets your needs, focusing on the knowledge and skills required to work in a management role within the leisure industry
- a programme of assessment, including observing you working in a real environment, carried out by an appropriately qualified assessor.
At the end of the programme, you will be provided with formal feedback on your performance and an action plan for your further development.
Assessment
The 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Leisure Management (QCF) assessment will require you to complete tasks on and observations in:
- leading a team in active leisure
- promoting customer care in active leisure
- managing health, safety and welfare in active leisure
- understanding the active leisure and learning sector
- understanding employment rights and responsibilities
- understanding the employing organisation
- managing own continuing professional development in active leisure.
Dependent on the optional units completed, you may also complete tasks on:
- implementing financial procedures in active leisure
- delivering objectives through the work of an active leisure team
- supervising facility maintenance in active leisure
- contributing to marketing in active leisure

Fees
Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees, and they will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification, a 1st4sport Learner Pack and an appropriate learning resource.
