Overview
The 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Archery is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with Archery GB. The 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Archery (QCF) is accredited at Level 1 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). Criteria
If you are over 15 years of age and would like to develop and improve your coaching skills, then the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Archery is designed for you.
Why Study?
It forms part of a structured and progressive programme of sports coaching and other related qualifications, offering you access and involvement in introducing others to the sport of archery.
What can I use it for?
- To gain paid or unpaid employment as an assistant archery coach.
- As part of the development of a credible CV for employment in the sport, recreation and allied occupations industry.
Outline
Your learning programme will develop your understanding of:
- establishing and maintaining an effective, fair and equitable coaching environment
- the principles of coaching
- establishing and maintaining a safe coaching environment
- planning coaching activities
- planning for a safe coaching environment
- preparing facilities and equipment for coaching activities
- preparing participants for coaching activities
- conducting planned coaching activities
- supporting participants’ behaviour and performance
- concluding coaching activities
- evaluating coaching activities
- developing your coaching practice.
How will my learning programme be structured?
Learning programmes are usually designed by the recognised centre that delivers the qualification. They may, therefore, vary in length and format. Depending on your needs, delivery centres can offer intensive courses or a series of learning events over a period of weeks. Whatever the timescale, all learning programmes should include the following phases:
- an induction to the qualification and your programme of learning and assessment
- a learning programme which meets your needs, focusing on the theory and practice of coaching archery
- a programme of assessment, spread throughout the course, including observations of your coaching by an appropriately qualified assessor.
At the end of the programme, you will be provided with formal feedback on your performance and an action plan for your further development.
Assessment
The 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Archery (QCF) assessment will require you to:
- have an appropriate understanding of the Level 1 knowledge units and the specific technical knowledge underpinning the coaching of archery, which will be assessed via performance, simulation, tasks and assignments, and an independently assessed short answer paper
- produce individual session plans for two 30-minute coaching sessions in archery; the activities within the sessions must be drawn from the Level 1 Archery Technical Syllabus
- produce a completed safety checklist for the coaching venue used during the coaching of one of the above sessions
- produce a written evaluation of the session delivered
- be observed delivering an archery coaching session by an appropriately qualified assessor; this session may be simulated and delivered on the course of training
- take part in a professional discussion with an appropriately qualified assessor
- complete a supported practice log of mentored coaching.
Fees
Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees and they will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification, a 1st4sport Qualifications Learner Pack and an appropriate learning resource.
