Overview

The 1st4sport Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety (QCF) is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with industry experts within spectator safety and SkillsActive – the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure, Learning and Well-being.

The 1st4sport Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety (QCF) is regulated at Level 2 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and supports the development of spectator safety stewards. Criteria

If you are over 18 years of age and are looking to gain a nationally accredited qualification whilst working in a spectator safety environment, then the 1st4sport Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety is for you.

Why Study?

The qualification provides a work-based assessment of the knowledge and competence of a steward and is ideally suited to those who are already carrying out the role and wish to match their current skills and knowledge to a recognised standard. The qualification also complies with the minimum requirements as defined by the Green Guide: Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds, enabling holders to steward at live match events among other live spectator events.

What can I use it for?

  • To aid the development of a credible CV and provide opportunities for employment as a live event steward.
  • The qualification supports progression towards the completion of the 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety (QCF) – supervisory level.

Outline

On successful completion of the 1st4sport Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety (QCF), you should understand how to:

  • prepare for spectator events
  • control the entry, exit and movement of spectators at events
  • monitor spectators and deal with crowd problems
  • help to manage conflict
  • support the work of the team and organisation
  • deal with accidents and emergencies.

How will my programme be structured?

Programmes are usually designed by the recognised centre that delivers the qualification. They may, therefore, vary in length and format. Depending on your needs, delivery centres can offer intensive courses, or a series of events over a period of weeks. Whatever the timescale, all programmes should include the following phases:

  • an induction to the qualification
  • a programme of assessment, spread throughout the course, including observations of your performance by an appropriately qualified assessor.

At the end of the programme, you will be provided with formal feedback on your performance and an action plan for your further development.

Assessment

The 1st4sport Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety (QCF) assessment will require you to complete a series of tasks which include:

  • a minimum of two observed spectator events, where you steward
  • continuous professional development
  • searching people
  • dealing with conflict
  • dealing with accidents
  • dealing with emergencies
  • helping to improve your venue knowledge and understanding.

Fees

Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees, and they will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification and a 1st4sport Learner Pack.
