Overview
The 1st4sport Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Active Leisure, Learning and Well-being Operational Services (L2OPS) is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed with the support of industry experts. It is regulated at Level 2 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). Criteria
If you are over 16 years of age, working in a leisure facility and would like to gain a nationally recognised qualification in leisure operations, then the 1st4sport Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Active Leisure, Learning and Well-being Operational Service is designed for you.

Outline
Your learning and assessment programme will greatly depend on the area of leisure operations you are working in or have access to. The units within the qualification cover a range of areas:
Mandatory units – you must achieve all of these units:
- Support the Work of the Team and Organisation
- Promote Health, Safety and Welfare in Active Leisure and Recreation
- Support Equality and Diversity in Active Leisure and Recreation
- Give Customers a Positive Impression of Yourself and Your Organisation (ICS1)
Optional units – you must achieve a minimum of four of these units:
- Set Up, Take Down and Store Activity Equipment
- Check and Service Activity Equipment
- Site Caravans on Parks
- Clean and Tidy Facility Areas
- Deal with Substances Hazardous to Health
- Operate Plant to Maintain the Quality of Pool Water
- Operate Plant to Provide and Maintain an Ice Surface
- Carry Out Maintenance and Minor Repairs (Asset Skills)
- Prepare Hard Standings and Paths for Caravans
- Use and Maintain Non-powered and Hand-held Powered Tools and Equipment (LANTRA2)
- Use and Maintain Pedestrian-controlled Powered Equipment (LANTRA)
- Use and Maintain Ride-on Powered Equipment (LANTRA)
- Use and Maintain Chippers and/or Shredders (LANTRA)
- Maintain Grounds of Premises and Facilities (Asset Skills)
- Monitor and Maintain Electrical and Plumbing Services (Asset Skills)
- Maintain Site Security and Safety (Asset Skills)
- Check and Maintain Sport/Play Surfaces and Equipment
- Contribute to Environmental Conservation in Active Leisure and Recreation
- Maintain the Safety of the Pool Environment and its Users
- Maintain the Safety of the Ice Rink Environment and its Users
- Process Payments for Purchases
- Provide a Facility Reception Service
- Resolve Customer Service Problems (ICS)
- Support Other Team Members in their Work
How will my learning programme be structured?
Learning programmes are usually designed by the recognised centre that delivers the qualification. They may, therefore, vary in length and format. Depending on your needs, delivery centres can offer intensive courses or a series of learning events over a period of weeks. Whatever the timescale, all learning programmes should include the following phases:
- an induction to the qualification and your programme of learning and assessment
- a learning programme that meets your needs and qualification requirements
- a programme of assessment, spread throughout the course, including observations of you carrying out your duties.
At the end of the programme, you will be provided with feedback on your achievement and an action plan for your further development.
Assessment
The 1st4sport Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Active Leisure, Learning and Well-being Operational Services assessment will require you demonstrate competence on more than one occasion in all of your chosen units. This will involve a mixture of observation of performance, product evidence, witness testimony and questioning.
Fees
Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees, and these will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification, a 1st4sport Learner Pack and an appropriate learning resource.
