Overview
The 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Triathlon (QCF) is awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with the UK Source Group for Triathlon. It is accredited at Level 1 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). Criteria
If you are over 16 years of age and you would like to develop and improve your coaching skills, then the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Triathlon (QCF) is designed for you.
Why Study?
It forms part of a structured and progressive programme of sports coaching and other related qualifications, offering you access and involvement in introducing others to the sport of triathlon.
What can I use it for?
- To gain paid or unpaid employment as an assistant triathlon coach.
- As part of the development of a credible CV for employment in the sport, recreation and allied occupations industry.
- As a stepping-stone to the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Triathlon (QCF).
Outline
Your learning programme will develop your understanding of:
- how to establish and maintain an effective, fair and equitable coaching environment
- the principles of coaching
- how to establish and maintain a safe coaching environment
- how to plan coaching activities
- how to plan for a safe coaching environment
- how to prepare facilities and equipment for coaching activities
- how to prepare participants for coaching activities
- how to conduct planned coaching activities
- how to support participants’ behaviour and performance
- how to conclude coaching activities
- how to evaluate coaching activities
- how to develop your coaching practice.
How will my learning programme be structured?
Learning programmes are usually designed by the recognised centre that delivers the qualification. They may, therefore, vary in length and format. Depending on your needs, delivery centres can offer intensive courses or a series of learning events over a period of weeks. Whatever the timescale, all learning programmes should include the following phases:
- an induction to the qualification and your programme of learning and assessment
- a learning programme that meets your needs, focusing on the theory and practice of coaching triathlon
- a programme of assessment, spread throughout the course, including observations of your coaching by an appropriately qualified assessor.
At the end of the programme, you will be provided with formal feedback on your performance and an action plan for your further development.
Assessment
The 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Triathlon (QCF) assessment will require you to:
- have an appropriate understanding of the Level 1 knowledge units and the specific technical knowledge underpinning the coaching of triathlon, which will be assessed via performance, simulation, tasks and assignments
- produce an individual session plan for a 15-minute coaching activity in triathlon; the activity must be drawn from the Level 1 Triathlon Technical Syllabus
- produce a written risk assessment for the coaching venue used during the coaching of the above activity
- produce a written evaluation of the above activity
- be observed delivering a triathlon coaching activity by an appropriately qualified assessor. This session may be simulated and delivered on the course of training. An individual session plan, risk assessment and evaluation should be produced for the activity
- complete a written exam paper.
Fees
Recognised centres offering this qualification determine their own fees and they will vary from centre to centre. The fees charged should entitle you to a programme of learning and assessment, registration and certification for the qualification, a 1st4sport Qualifications Learner Pack and an appropriate learning resource.
