1st4sport and FA launch new football leadership qualification

1st4sport Level 2 Award in Leadership through Football (QCF)

1st4sport and The FA are today launching the Qualification Specification for the new ‘Level 2 Award in Leadership through Football’ which will be available for delivery from September 2010. The qualification has been developed with the support and technical direction of FA Learning and is exclusively awarded and administered by 1st4sport Qualifications. The qualification has been accredited by Ofqual onto the QCF carrying a weighting of 9 credits – 90 learning hours.

The supporting course has been designed for learners between the ages of 14 and 19 year olds and can be delivered as a standalone qualification or as part of the new Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure. Leadership through Football has been designed to be learner-centred and engaging through its football focus. The 90 learning hours, of which a minimum of 56 are recommended to be delivered as guided learning hours, support the learners through four exciting modules focussing on the skills of:

  • Lead Football Activity Sessions (3 credits)
  • Referee Football Activity Sessions and Small-sided Games (2 credits)
  • Work with Small-sided Teams in Football (2 credits)
  • Contribute to the organisation and delivery of a football event for young people (2 credits)

The package for centres will include, for those attending FA Regional Induction events, a comprehensive tutor pack including step-by-step session plans, session templates, PowerPoint presentations and a tutor DVD. FA Learning will be holding one-day Regional familiarisation events for Category One tutors in June. These events will take place at the start of June on a needs-led basis, and will carry a charge which will include a tutor and candidate pack.

At this stage, anyone wishing to apply to become a registered centre for this qualification should contact 1st4sport and may do so, subject to their workforce having completed the FA Induction. Details of the application process can be found at the 'become a recognised centre' page.
