Latest News from 1st4sport Qualifications

1st4sport Qualifications has had one of its busiest years to date, as our list of QCA-accredited qualifications continues to grow.

The full range now includes over 50 qualifications, spanning a whole range of sports and active learning and leisure industry-related areas.

Developed in line with the UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC), the Certificate in Coaching is now available via the pathway of various different sports, including cricket, triathlon, rugby league, cycling, rowing, rugby union, netball, squash and - most recently - basketball.

Qualification Development News

Please ensure you read this section carefully, to establish whether any qualifications you currently offer are subject to change. We will continue to provide a qualifications update every six months via the website and centre newsletters. Any qualifications that are not highlighted within this newsletter should be assumed to continue to be available and accredited as stated on the QCA National Database of Accredited Qualifications.

1st4sport Coaching Qualifications

The Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Angling (L2CCA)

The QCA accreditation of the stand-alone L2CCA is due to expire on 31 December 2007. The qualification is currently under revision with the angling governing bodies and will be submitted for accreditation as an optional pathway for our 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching (100/5078/4) prior to the end of the year. The angling governing bodies are likely to submit the revised version for UKCC endorsement.

Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Basketball (L1CCBB)

The QCA-accredited and UKCC-endorsed Level 1 basketball pathway unit for the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching (100/5725/0) will be implemented and available to receive applications for qualification approval and subsequent course authorisations from 1 July 2007.

Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Basketball (L2CCBB)

The QCA-accredited Level 2 basketball pathway unit for the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching (100/5078/4) has been submitted for UKCC endorsement and will be available for delivery towards the end of 2007.

Level 1 and Level 2 Certificates in Coaching Hockey (L1CCH/L2CCH)

The previously accredited stand-alone Level 1 and 2 hockey coaching qualifications have now been withdrawn and are available as optional pathway units for the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching (100/5725/0) and Level 2 Certificate in Coaching (100/5078/4).

Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football (L2CCF)

The currently accredited stand-alone Level 2 football coaching qualification (100/3488/2) will be withdrawn at the end of July 2007 and will be available from 1 August as an optional pathway unit for the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching (100/5078/4).

Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Orienteering

(L1CCO)

A 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Orienteering (L1CCO) is currently in development as a pathway unit for the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching (100/5725/0) and will be submitted for accreditation towards the end of 2007, with the aim of British Orienteering ultimately submitting it for UKCC endorsement.

Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Orienteering (L2CCO)

The accreditation of the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Orienteering expired on 31 December 2006. Centres who registered candidates before this date have one year for candidates to achieve certification. We are continuing to award this qualification without QCA accreditation until a new pathway unit has been developed with British Orienteering for the Level 2 Certificate in Coaching (100/5078/4).

Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Ice Skating (L1CCIS)

The QCA accredited Level 1 ice skating pathway unit for the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching (100/5725/0) will be implemented and available to receive applications for qualification approval and subsequent course authorisations from 1 December 2007.

Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Strength and Conditioning (L3CCSC)

The strength and conditioning pathway unit for the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching (100/5822/9) has recently been submitted for accreditation. The proposed date for acceptance of qualification approval applications is October 2007.

Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Handball

(L1CCHB)

The Level 1 handball pathway unit for the 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching (100/5725/0) is in the process of being submitted for QCA accreditation. Implementation will commence at the end of 2007, to enable centre recognition/qualification approval applications to be made after this time.

1st4sport Stewarding Qualifications

Level 2 Certificate in Event and Match Day Stewarding (CEMS)

The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Event and Match Day Stewarding (100/5041/3) expired on 31 May 2007. The qualification has been reaccredited from 1 June 2007 and will be given a new accreditation number. The qualification has been reviewed and developed within a more generic context. This will not greatly affect the learning programmes that are currently being used, but will facilitate the use of the qualification by a number of sport and/or event types.

1st4sport Sports Officiating Qualifications

Level 2 Certificate for Match Officials in Football (L2CMOF)

This football-specific qualification (100/3549/7) is due to expire at the end of July 2007 and will be replaced by a generic qualification – the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate for Sports Officials. This qualification will be structured very much like our current generic coaching offering, with pathway units for each sport. It is anticipated that a football-specific pathway unit will be available from 1 August.

1st4sport Sports Therapy/Medical/Sport Science Qualifications

Introductory Certificate in Field-based Sports Physiology (ICFSP)

The 1st4sport Introductory Certificate in Field-based Sports Physiology (100/3550/3) has now expired and we will not be submitting it for reaccredidation. The certification end date for the qualification is January 2009.

Introductory Certificate in Psychology for Sport (ICPS)

The 1st4sport Introductory Certificate in Psychology for Sport is due to expire on 31 December 2007, with a certification end date of 31 December 2009. This qualification will not be submitted for reaccredidation.

First Aid for Sport (FAS)

The First Aid for Sport qualification expired on 31 May 2007 and an extension has been submitted for 12 months.

Level 2 Treatment and Management of Injury in Football (L2TMI)

The 1st4sport Level 2 Treatment and Management of Injury in Football qualification is due to expire on 31 December 2007. This qualification has been subject to extensive review with the qualification partners – the Football Medical and Sport Science Department and FA Learning. The qualification has undergone significant refinement and will be reaccredited for January 2008 in a generic format, to encompass learners who may wish to provide a treatment and management of injury service across a breath of different sports.

1st4sport Education and Training/Sport and Recreation Qualifications

Introduction to Assessment Practice in Sport (IAPS)

The 1st4sport Introduction to Assessment Practice in Sport qualification is due to expire on 1 August 2007. This qualification will be reaccredited. The qualification will remain as currently detailed within the qualification specification, although centres should be aware that the candidate resources are in the process of being redeveloped in response to feedback from centres and external verifiers.

Certificate in Tutoring in Sport (CTS)

The 1st4sport Certificate in Tutoring in Sport is due to expire in December 2007. This qualification will be reaccredited. The qualification will remain as currently detailed within the qualification specification, although centres should be aware that the candidate resourced are in the process of being redeveloped in response to feedback from centres and external verifiers.

Level 2 and Level 3 Certificate in Managing Sports Volunteers (L2CMSV/L3CMSV)

The 1st4sport Level 2 and Level 3 Certificates in Managing Sports Volunteers are currently in the early stages of development. We aspire to submit both qualifications towards the end of 2007 and aim to implement both in January 2008.

Level 3 Certificate in Performance Lifestyle Support (L3CPLS)

We are in the process of developing a qualification for those who are interested in providing support to young athletes within a performance environment. This programme is currently facilitated by TASS (Talented Athlete Support Scheme). The qualification title is Level 3 Certificate in Performance Lifestyle Support and we aim to submit for accreditation by the end of 2007.
